What went wrong between President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner when the 2011 debt deal fell apart? We partnered with The New York Times to produce a high-level recount of how the deal came to be, and how it ultimately unraveled.

To create the paint style, we designed a set of custom Photoshop brush presets that were shared with the team to keep a consistent look.

The New York Times provided us with a large library of photos from their archives. To give the images a textured newspaper look, we ran each one through a process of erasing then drawing additional layers on top.
Eraser Head
A series of cel animated luma mattes were built to create the erasing transition effects. By using them on multiple layers at once in a single scene we were able to achieve the fluid motion used throughout the spot.
